Preservation: Age Defying Bronze and salt are both preservation materials, one used for public memorials the other for food. Imagery of the face and of building facades also reference traditional public memorial. In a shift of scale and action, these pieces become intimate memorial gestures. In Age Defying, visitors are invited to take cream from the cup on the finger and rub it on the face. For I'm Listening, they are invited to tell the ear a story. The stories are recorded. These are both small daily acts of preservation. By enacting them onto art objects, within a gallery space, life and art get mixed up on a small scale. |
