Work-In-Progress

Three scaffolds paired with three carts allow the collaborative work of Amber Ginsburg, Carla Duarte and Lia Rousset to move from the gallery to the sidewalk. The performative and durational work entitled Work-in-Progress questions the historic understanding of materials we consider cultural building blocks:  clay, fiber and seeds. The artists re-activate the relationships between people and material within an urban environment by re-crafting materials associated with dwelling, clothing, and food. Taking used brick, yarn and seeds onto carts that move daily through the Loop, the artists initiate conversation with hands-on activity. The scaffolds within the gallery become meeting rooms, sites of accumulation, and archives of experience held on the streets. The artists invite the audience to join in material reconfiguration and conversation.
