Functional

When I moved to Champaign-Urbana in 2000, I actively professionalized my ceramic art production. Thanks to Boneyard Pottery’s owner Michael Schwegmann, I seamlessly slipped into studio production and gallery space. At Boneyard, I learned the beauty of the multiple, my desire to integrate the intellectual history of ceramics with practice, and my love of teaching. After three years of production, I first experienced giving up my own artistic control whenI apprenticed for Michael. I found it a speedy way to learn. It would take me some time to find the same benefits in collaborative projects, but this apprenticeship was the beginning of my desire to work closely with other people.
