Postcards

This project was conceived during the time I commuted 100 miles a day between Urbana, Illinois and Normal, Illinois. My eyes gravitated towards the single strip of untamed land between the cut grass next to the highway and the barbed wire marking the corn and soy fields. Before long I was out of my car, taking pictures on the side of the highway and gathering seeds in the fall. These plants are well adapted and suggest a low maintenance beauty for Illinois.

Shown are two series, one taken on the side of the road, the second from my car. Each postcard is 1 of 100. Each postcard has a single seed on the backside and the text reads:

This seed is from a wildflower found growing along Highway 74 in Illinois. It is hardy. Please plant it in your favorite derelict or neglected spot.

Postcards are $5 and come with a fully refundable Mail-In-Certificate.
